Cellular Network Benchmarking Methodologies
For each category, field measurements are made consecutively at each site using automated benchmarking equipment, and relevant test parameters were logged for each test call.
Outdoor benchmarking
Outdoor benchmarking includes drive and static test. Drive test along planned routes aims to achieve a good mix between densities of subscriber traffic. Automated Benchmarking equipment is used to capture the real-time traffic that flows in and out of the city for multiple networks simultaneously. Consecutive test -calls are made throughout in a drive-test vehicle. This set-up is designed to measure dynamic hand-over scenarios between cells and location.
Indoor benchmarking
Indoor benchmarking is carried out within the buildings. The buildings and the test points inside the buildings are carefully selected to reflect the call quality and network quality within buildings. Network quality in the high-traffic and key areas within a significant number of buildings will be measured and aggregated. Calls are conducted either in stationary position or moving around within buildings in order to measure handover within sectors inside the building as well as the perimeter of the buildings.
Hotspots
Hotspots are identified to make the test calls was chosen. These are key areas or important landmarks with appropriate potential for substantial voice and data traffic. Both the indoor and outdoor test points were randomly selected. Stationary points within building and outdoors along the roads and highways are carefully chosen.
