Tooraj Forughian
Tooraj
Forughian has over 25 years of professional experience in the
business development, sales and marketing, engineering practice
and academia. His experience encompasses diverse Industries
(power engineering and telecommunication), organizations (MNC,
SME and Startup), and cultural environments (Europe, the Middle
East, Central Asia and South East Asia).
Following his graduation, he
joined GEC Alsthom (a major power transmission equipment manufacturer in United
Kingdom) as a design engineer and was later promoted to the post of senior
design engineer in charge of the company’s AC research laboratory. In 1988,
Tooraj moved to AK Fans Ltd (a defense-related company in the United Kingdom) to
lead the electronic design activities of the company.
In 1993, Tooraj moved to
Singapore to join Ngee Ann Polytechnic where in addition to academic duties, he
provided consultancy services to several projects and co-founded Ngee Ann-Altera
training centre. In 1999, Tooraj co-founded BBS Access Pte Ltd (a company
engaged in the development and manufacturing of telecommunication and power
utility metering products). As an executive director (Sales & Marketing) Tooraj
played an instrumental role in taking the organization from a startup to an
export-oriented, multicultural company and played a leading role in developing
the brand and image of the company and its products. The company has been
recipient of two Enterprise 50 awards, was ranked 3rd amongst privately owned
companies in Singapore in 2005 and was awarded the prestigious Pioneer Status in
2004. Tooraj has represented the company in numerous trade missions out of
Singapore.
Tooraj holds a Bachelors
degree (Honours) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Masters of Science
in Power Electronics from Loughborough University of Technology in United
Kingdom. He has delivered several seminars across the world and has published
numerous articles.
Tooraj has been an active
member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE, UK) and has held various
offices in the Singapore chapter of the Institution. Notably, he lead the IEE,
Singapore Centre as its chairman in1999-2001 and was IEE’s representative in the
Asia Board Region. He was also a member of the National Committee for
Engineering Organisations in Singapore.
