Michael Burgess

Mike Burgess is currently the Chairman of the publicly listed Unwired, an Intel Capital backed broadband wireless service provider. He has been a non-executive director of Insight Infrastructure Pte Ltd, a Singapore based investment company specialising in the deployment and management of wireless infrastructure since July 2006 and of Consistel Pte Ltd, an Intel Capital backed Singapore based supplier of wireless solutions since November 2007.

Mike Burgess had 11 years experience in the IT industry prior to joining the international division of Telstra to set up its global sales and marketing organisation. He built a multi-divisional capability opening offices throughout Asia, the USA and the UK. Following the merger of its domestic and international operations he led its Corporate & Global Customer Division before becoming the Deputy Chief Operating Officer of its Commercial & Consumer Division.

He has held senior position in the Marketing and Sales when he was in Xerox Corporation from 1969 to 1980 in England, Netherlands, USA and Australia. He was the Director of Marketing, Sales & Joint Ventures with British Telecom for Africa, Middle East, Asia and the Pacific  in 1995. Following Marconi’s acquisition of MSI in 2000, Mike became Executive Vice President of its Wireless Division and in 2001 of all its Asia Pacific operations. He was based in HK then Beijing and was responsible for business strategy and operational management of its direct, indirect and joint venture operations in Greater China, Korea, Japan, ASEAN, the Indian sub-continent and Australasia.

Mike has held executive and non-executive directorships in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the USA. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
